Period 5
We shifted gears and discussed what the students thought about Earth Day as a concept.

The first round of discussion centered on the idea that "we don’t really care so why do it?"

Then we talked about the idea that Earth Day was nerdy, and we discussed whether or not it was the big picture that was nerdy or what we were doing at LCMS that was nerdy.

Their idea was to make it fun and interesting by doing foot ball or camping. Then it was a fun event and people would like it better because it would be something to do.

We explored the idea of “Earth Justice as an alternative term but that was not better.

But then when I specifically asked whether or not they cared about
clean air, water, food supply, they did.

Lynn explained that maybe there are a few thigs that kids might care about.

Medicine, plants, air, asthma

Then students pointed out that it wasn’t that they didn’t care but that they didn’t think it mattered because they couldn’t change anything: Nuclear Power
Plants, pollution etc.

They care but since they can’t do anything why should they care?

Then we talked about how one person influences another person that is important!
